Turboprops provide the mainstay of the UK charter fleet. They are propeller driven aircraft, but the more powerful turbo-charged engines give greater lift and speed advantages over piston engine machines. These aircraft fly at near jet speeds and altitudes, but at considerably less cost.
Main features of the aircraft in this class are comfortable, pressurised cabins with business class seating for between 5 and 9 passengers. Typical speeds of around 330 – 360 miles per hour bring many European destinations easily within 2 hours flying time and their non-stop range is in excess of 2,000 miles. Excellent short-field capability means that many small, regional airports are easily accessible.
